It’s been a busy start to 2023 for the Hotline.
In addition to the many calls to the Hotline seeking referrals and assistance we have received an increase in the number of calls from remote First Nations communities. In most cases there is minimal access to literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LND) support. We are looking forward to the results of the Commonwealth’s review of remote delivery and improved access to provision.
Aside from helping people access classes, the Hotline’s work has also focussed on:
- developing new resources for libraries and community organisations such as the Adult Literacy Tutoring package and some associated videos focussing on an adult learner’s perspective, as well as a partnership with the University of Technology Sydney to develop numeracy teaching videos
- providing information to Governments around the LND needs of Hotline callers through submissions and participation in advisory bodies such as the Foundation Skills Advisory Group
- continuing our research work on LND needs through surveying First Nations Community organisations and discussions with libraries.
We hope you have a well deserved holiday for those taking a break in the upcoming weeks. Thanks again for all the hard work you do to support people wanting to improve their literacy, numeracy and digital literacy.
