The Voice Referendum and literacy for citizenship

The NSW Adult Literacy and Numeracy Council hosted a webinar in April on The Referendum on the Voice to Parliament: Exploring the role of adult educators in engaging students in the debate. The webinar was an opportunity for teachers to discuss, share and debate how they can support their learners’ engagement with the Referendum on the Voice.

Presenters argued that adult educators need to create spaces to support students to exercise their citizenship responsibility to be engaged in this important issue. The presenters prompted discussion about language, history and concepts that teachers would need to unpack carefully as well as resources and approaches to help teachers engage their students.

A follow-up webinar will be held on 22 June at 5.30pm, prior to the Council’s AGM. For details, contact nswalnc@gmail.com.
