06 May Resources for LLN educators developed by Ako Aotearoa
Some of you may have heard that in December 2025, the New Zealand organisation Ako Aotearoa was disestablished. This is a huge loss for their sector. However, Ako Aotearoa was able to complete their suite of free, online professional development courses. They have generously made these available into the future on Pathways Awarua.
The Language, Literacy and Numeracy Educator Pathway features 10 Collections:
- Introduction to LLN
- Workplace LLN
- Developing number skills
- Fractions, decimals and percentages
- Measurement
- Statistical skills
- Phonological awareness
- Decoding and spelling
- Reading comprehension
- Writing skills.
Readers might also be interested in the ALEC Literacy and Numeracy Teaching Companion, the Digital Literacy Educator Pathway, the UDL Educator Pathway, the Learner Agency Educator Pathway, the Talanoa Numeracy Educator Pathway, and the Neurodiversity Educator Pathway.
The Pathways Awarua website has a full overview of all Educator Pathways. These offer free, self-directed professional learning for new and experienced educators. They include research-informed, evidence-based teaching strategies and a wealth of resources.
The Hotline acknowledges the great work of the staff at Ako Aotearoa and salutes their generosity in ensuring ongoing access for everyone to these quality resources.
