13 Jun Commonwealth Budget 2023-24
Our sector has welcomed an extension of eligibility into the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program announced in the Budget.
The Federal government wants to provide more pathways to literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LND) training with a “no wrong door” policy. Under the re-designed SEE program eligibility will no longer be restricted to jobseekers.
Stream 2 of the SEE program will be for First Nations delivery through community organisations.
The government also aims to increase literacy and numeracy access through the proposed five year National Skills Agreement with states and territories starting January 2024.
However, the biggest challenge to rebuilding access to literacy and numeracy is not having the skilled workforce to meet the needs of learners. As identified in Hotline research, this is a major barrier for providers.
For more information on the budget see the media release from the Minister.
Additionally check out the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations website which will have more information on the re-design of the SEE program.
