The Tasmanian Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, launched the State’s second ten-year adult literacy strategy last week.

The vision is for Tasmanian adults to have the literacy skills they need for work, education, family, and community life.

The strategy’s goals:

      1. Tasmanians know about adult literacy
      2. Tasmanian adults can get help with their literacy
      3. Tasmanian communities have the skills and literacy resources needed to help adults.

The strategy builds on the learnings from the past ten years, including retaining aspects of the previous strategy. There are also new aspects in this Strategy that demonstrate how Tasmania is evolving to meet the current and emerging literacy needs of its adult population.

      1. Literacy for everyday skills
      2. Place-based help
      3. Strengthened governance approaches
      4. Improving data and measurement

With more than ten-years of past learnings, a statewide ten-year plan launched, a significant statewide investment in lifting literacy across all ages, and recurrent funding to stay the course, it’s an exciting time to be working in literacy in Tasmania.
