14 Oct Share your assistive technology ideas with us
Have you seen or do you encourage the use of assistive technology (AT) tools or apps with your learners to help them read, pronounce or write? Do you have any that you recommend? The Hotline is preparing a resource on AT that we will put on our website. Share your ideas and recommendations with us by the 4th of November, to go into the draw to win a Hotline t-shirt and a $50 Woolworths or Coles voucher.
Hotline teachers often hear from callers, especially young adults, who use various apps or tools on their smart devices as ‘just in time’ solutions to manage their everyday reading and writing needs.
While many of these callers don’t see these as learning tools, AT not only offers quick practical support, through observation and repetition it can also foster learning.
The Hotline has researched free or low-cost ATs which we routinely share with our callers. Some of these recommendations come from teachers who have found specific ATs useful, including Google Voice Typing, Read&Write (for Android phones and iphones/ipads), Pronounce – Speech Checker, Speechify or the OrCam Read Lite device. We are always interested in learning more and welcome your ideas and recommendations.
Please send your recommendations to [email protected] by the 4th of November to go into the draw to win a Hotline t-shirt and a $50 Woolworths or Coles gift card.
