Celebrate International Literacy Day and Adult Learners Week

Celebrate International Literacy Day and Adult Learners Week

Adult Learners Week runs from 1–8 September and incorporates International Literacy Day, which is celebrated annually on September 8.

This year’s theme for International Literacy Day is “Promoting multilingual education: Literacy for mutual understanding and peace“. This is an important theme for Australia where adult literacy learning in First Nations languages can be powerful and transformative.

Adult Learners Week is a UNESCO initiative supported in Australia by the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and coordinated by Adult Learning Australia.

Adult Learners Week in Australia is an opportunity to showcase the journey that people can take through adult education regardless of their age or stage in life. To read more about what’s happening and you can join in go to Adult Learners Week: Take The Journey.

Three ALW2024 scholarships of $1000 will be awarded to outstanding adult learners to enable them to continue learning by taking a new learning pathway or continuing an existing one. Entries close 27th August. Need help? Read the ALA  tips on writing a nomination.
